several yrs back lucked up on a couple of pretty good deals on these. passed because only bases i could find were german and were abt $300. lucked up on ebay and won for ten bucks a base by a PEMS i believe (don't have handy right now). came in today, looks fine, accepts weaver style rings. anybody have any experience with these and do they do the job?

i know, i know, i bought a scope base for a gun i've never owned. now i'll have to go buy a rifle to fit it. like i'm the only one who's ever done anything like that.

Is the Mauser 660 the same as the 66 - a telescoping bolt action?

If it is and you have a base that fits it AND it is the same width as Weaver bases, I am envious. thumb

I have a mount on my Mauser 66 by B&L and the rings are not high enuff to clear a modern scope. thumbdown

The scope base is different width than Weaver bases and I cannot find Higher rings that fit.

Could you tell me more about this base so I know what to look for?? bewildered

i'd have to look but my recollection is the 66 and 660 are variations on a theme - i.e. the telescoping switch barrel jobs. next time i go to the garage, i'll double check this base to make sure it accepts weaver rings. was made by PEMS in atwater, ohio. never heard of them before. it is aluminum which i'd prefer steel but assuming it a) works and b) is $10 instead of $300 or whatever i can live with that.

i just did a search on ebay for mauser 660 and i think this was the only item period that came up and i was only bidder.

Post pictures when you get a chance, I'd love to see them.. I made my own. A Mauser front is the rear and a moded flat is the front.

I used a low Weaver blank, it needed to have the holes drilled and needed to be lowered a bit to match the rear base height. I originally had weaver hi offsets on it but I found that the Leupold/Weaver lever rings worked for me.

per olson, the 660 was just the import designation for the 66. same gun, just marked different for US. that's the good news.

the bad news is i don't know what the hell kind of rings this base takes but sure ain't weavers. is dead flat across the top, chamfered underside edges and has the lateral grooves for recoil/longitudinal location but isn't chamfered on the top edges like weavers. cz550 rings will clamp on it but of course don't have a transverse key to locate. oh well. i'm only out $10. as the poster noted who made his own, if i ever actually have a rifle to use it on, i can get a machinist buddy to cut the top down and i'll put a flat bottomed weaver blank on top of that.

They're Mediums.. The front bell of the scope is not the problem.. The bolt handle clearence is.

I am reasonably certain that Conetrol makes a mount for the Mauser 66.

Conetrol Does make mounts for the M66 using 2 different height rings. The scope wasn't back far enough for me using the Conetrols.
