I have a cooper 338-06 in the excaliber model. I love the rifle it shoots great and the caliber works good for hunting in alaska. The only thing that I do not like about it is how thick the forarm and hand well is on the rifle. My question is can you get a synthic stock reshaped to Winchester Feather weight style stock and then repaint it? I would not be affecting the barrel channel ect, just the outside. Anyone heard of someone doing this? Any info would be great.

Sounds like a lot of work for maybe mixed results. I would find a stock replacement stock that fits my need and sell the frist one.

Considering that a lot of them are a foam core with a hard outer shell (think M&M's), how much reshaping can you do before breaking through the shell would be a better question.

Tailgunner is right, I tried the very thing you want to do. Ended up buying another stock.

MPI makes a featherweight stock very similar to the M70 FWT. Contact them and see if they inlet for the Cooper. Alternately they may be able to use your existing stock to copy the inlet.
