Anyone making a decent hinged guard for a M98? If so who and where?

tu2 Yep I know about Duane's fantastic bottom metal. However this is a budget project so something along the lines of a MKX etc would be perfect.

Try Pacific Tool & Gauge. Takes awhile but you'll get it. Around $120. I cant afford those high end prices either.

I found this on Gunbroker

http://www.gunbroker.com/Aucti....aspx?Item=517352754

It's all steel. I'd stay away from the aluminum ones you can buy from Brownells, etc.

Thanks missed that one. Looks a lot like the ones from Sarco. I agree no aluminum.

The SARCO ones are cast and not of Oberndorf quality, but usable. Best to find an Argentine one. Still not cheap. I just use the military ones most of time; how often do I want to open the floorplate anyway? Never. almost never.

Yep to the Argentine, MKX FN etc.

Just bought a MKX 270. For some reason it has a military floor plate on it. Just looking for options.

I agree with you I almost never open the floor plate.

Do you taper the guard getting rid of the box feel around the trigger?

Paul, somewhere I have an old commercial FN TGFP.
Not hinged, but has the little extended button to release. The good thing is it's 30-06 length.
I can dig for it if interested.

Dig away if you don't mind. dpcd got me thinking. No real need for a hinged plate.

Bought the rifle with a last minute bid. While the action is a MKX the guard isn't. The only pic of the guard shows a button like an old FN BUT the screw head is an old locking military. So I won't know what I actually have for a week or so.

Yes, I sometimes taper the guard front to rear. And sometimes round the outside over. Other times, not. Remove the swivel hole, or the place where it would be, front of the TG bow.
