Those H&H styled scope mounts really look great on your rifle. Great scope choice too. thumb

What is the caliber of your Mauser?

That's beautiful! I think we all dream of owning a rifle like that one day.

Thanks for the pictures!

Gentlemen: First of all, the rifle has just the "right " lines, don't know if most of you are aware of the labor that goes into those style mounts...can bring a man to tears!

I am wondering why anyone would go to the trouble of making that sidemount when you can use a Griffin & Howe, which is equally classical.

I respectfully disagree. That H&H styled, two-piece, flying-buttressed, scope mounting system is by far superior in style, albeit perhaps not in function, to the four bolt, one-piece, slab-screwed, fly-over G&H version of the so-called side mount. IMHO of course. Smiler

I really do not like theese scopemounts, but on a classic replica like this, they look very much at home! And my compliments for using a scope that fits the mounts, way to many tries to force big, modern scopes into those mounts!

mrlexma, when you remove the scope to use iron sights, and that is the way classical rifles were set up, the G&H leaves a lot less clutter on the side of the rifle. But a G&H has to be installed the way the firm did it, machining over and smoothing off the base to hide the heads of the screws and pins. Outside gunsmiths often did not do this and the five exposed screwheads and pins look very messy. And it is important to let the bottom of the base down into the stock leaving wood on the outside, again for looks.
