I've got a Winchester M-70 classic that I'd like to restock. What I'd like to have is more open grip than factory and in a drop box configuration.

I'm hoping to find someone to turn a blank and let me do the sanding and finishing.

I was hoping I could find someone with a pattern as I don't have one. Is this a problem?

I've used GAC in the past but I've had problems with the quality of the wood on the last two I've done. On this one I'd like to pick the wood myself.

Thanks,

Terry

TC1,

I called Dennis Olsen a while back and if I remember correctly he didn't have a pattern for mdl 70 classic with a drop box. The guy I like to use (Mike Kokolus) didnt have one either. Mike offered to turn me a piece on his CZ pattern so I could make Mdl 70 pattern but I really don't have time. Mikes got a CZ pattern that would make a really nice drop box mdl 70.

I'm having GAG do mine, I like the brit express stalker patter they have also. I bought one other stock from them and inletting was rough, but the price was right and they seem to be nice guys to deal with. We'll see how it comes out, should have it back by the end of next week.

Brockman may have a pattern, but think they get about 250 to turn one, I think they use a CNC and do a pretty good job, but I didnt like the pattern they had, grip was to short and looked fat in the pic on there web site.

You may have to make a pattern, if you don't want to use GAG, they were the only ones I could find that had one. I'm not sure that many mdl 70 drop box patterns are to be had, but I may be wrong.

Theres a guy in Las Vegas, Cecil Fredi that has some nice English blanks for the money. I didn't buy one from him, but may in the future.

If John doesnt have one, you might try Bill Harvey in Maryland, 410-658-5074. He also has a Hoenig. both are excellent.

Try John Vest in Redmond, Oregon at [541] 923-8898. John has a Hoenig duplicating machine and is very meticulous and skilled. Check with him to see what patterns he has available.

You also could try Shane Thompson, in Soda Springs, ID. His number is 208-547-0383. He has a pretty large selection of patterns in a classic style. Plus if you are needing wood he also has quite a bit of English Walnut on hand. Michael
