So after finally finding a new job and moving, I'm actually ready to start having my Heym restocked. It's the one in this thread:

http://forums.accuratereloadin...9411043&m=7221074631

I'd like to have the old stock duplicated, while leaving as much wood in the new stock as possible. I'm assuming that the old stock can be epoxied together well enough to use as a pattern stock, but I'd like to have the action bedded into the old stock, either using bedding compound or something else. Is this even possible?

Also, what's a typical price range (not including stock blank) to have a stock duplicated, sanded, and ready for the barreled action to be dropped in (not including wood finish or checkering). I'd like to have the wrist reinforced, dual crossbolts, and bedded action with either rosewood or ebony forend tip and grip cap installed.

I've looked a lot over the last few months, and I think I have a basic idea on what most of the costs should be, the only one I can't find a ballpark on is the handwork required to after duplication is complete.

I've saved up about $1500 for this project so far, but I'm really not sure if this is enough to get my rifle shootable again (I'm looking at a blank at Luxus that's on sale for $500).

Sorry if I rambled a little bit, and TIA for any help.

Those all sound like good ideas. I'm sure many people could do this work, but I have a lot of experience with Dennis Olson and he seems like the perfect person for such a job.

Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Cool, thanks for the info. I found his number online, and I'll try calling him next Monday or Tuesday.

I talked to Chris at Heym USA, and they checked the warehouse in Germany and they didn't have anything. This is a 20-30 year old rifle, that was shot very little by the original owner. Chris told me that the metalwork had a lifetime warranty, but the woodwork was limited to 5 or ten years (I don't remember exactly).

Another person you may want to consider, who lives close to you, is Al Lind who has been doing stock duplication for a long long time.

Cool, it would be nice to take it to someone local. I'd much rather be able to talk to somebody face-to-face than try and describe what I want to have done over the phone. Eventually this is going to be my go anywhere, do anything, rifle. If I have to have to save a little more and wait a little longer to start work, I'm fine with that. I'll try and call Al tomorrow.

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Hi,

Not meaning to take any work from Al Lind, Roger Biesen or Dennis Olson, but I had a stock duplicated by a smith about 20 minutes from Portland a couple of years ago. The exterior finish he left required little prep prior to finish. I am sure the inletting for your Heym would be great as he would have a one off pattern to cut from. This guy may be closer to you if travel is an issue. Give me call if you wish his number. I have it somewhere. I live in SW Washington, also.
