I was trying to show the use of 1 light bulb in a standard shop light that I have switched over to for checkering. In the past it was hard to get the correct color inside the shop. This is about a close as you can get. Here is the lights

The follow up is a Martini 15 for myself. The color is perfect in the pictures as unedited.

Wow, that is a really good pic. It can be hard to bring out the mineral streaking in the wood like you were able to do.

Can you tell us a little about the butt treatment? It looks like there is a removable door of some sort in the middle. Does it hide a trap? From what I can see the checkering looks very nice on the butt too.

Marc,

I have been playing in the shop trying to finish up this Martini that started about 3 yrs ago. I only do work for myself now and it is getting harder to see what I am working on. Now up to a 7 power Opti Visor to checker and sand the stock. The stock is one that I ran on my little stock duplicator with my pattern from years ago. The grip cap and the butt fittings are made the old fashion way. (hacksaw and files) The center in the butt is a screw cap. I can get to the stock bolt without removing the plate after it is installed. I made the reamer and dies also for a wildcat 20 cal and it is based on the shorten 223 case.

The stock blank color is exactly as it appears in the pictures. It is going to be quite dark. I hope to have it finished before too much longer. I will post the pictures when completed.

Have you tried to sharpen your own checkering cutters? I switch over to carbide cutters about 20 years ago and have never looked back. I posted a picture of me touching up a cutter a couple of days ago.
