I have baught a blank and, once I have the two current project I have going finished, (teak speargun and double rifle refinishing) I will make up a pattern stock for this one. It is a .458Lott and I don't plan on putting a scope on it. What proportions will I need to use in order to make a stock that will be more suited to pointing like a shotgun with iron sights? What modifications are likely to be needed on a standard rifle pattern? Thanks.

Exp; If you have a shotgun / any other gun that "fits" you, why not copy the butt - transfer the drop, off-set etc. into your rifle stock profile? Since you are starting from scratch you can get a good fit for yourself. --- John 303.

A shot gun is "fitted" to shoot HIGH so as to put 60% of the charge above the actual target and about 40% below it. To put the point of impact above the actual point of aim. Stock dimension for a rifle will have slightly less "bend" (or drop) and a slightly shorter stock. So as to give (if it were a shot gun) 50% of the charge above and 50% of the charge below the target. In other words to put the actual point of impact right on top of the actual point of "aim".
