Does the std Featherweight barrel have enough beef to safely chamber a 30/06 to Ackley Improved?

The barrel will be a .308 either way. Barrel thickness is not a limiting factor in this case. The rifle merely needs to be rechambered, although not much will be gained in the AI version of the .30-06. Doug

I had a stainless 375 H&H bbl turned down to the ftw contour and love it. The smith who turned it down is well known and claimed it was no problem. Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship Phil Shoemaker Alaska Master guide FAA Master pilot NRA Benefactor www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com

To do it correctly the barrel will have to be set back one full turn. Will that affect how your barrel contour fits the stock? I have had several AIs and larger wildcats the gain in the 30-06 would be marginal. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
