Probably not much
I an under the impression that one really doesn't need to know much about anything to work for Gander Mountain gun dept..
I have had some wonderfully bad experiences with the incompetent help there
two of the gunsmith schools I have checked into have their curriculum tailored in such a fashion to offer a accelerated version for working at similar establishments and a longer more detailed course of study for setting up for yourself in your own shop Cool
if you can avoid it I would

I belive this link can help http://thegunsmiths.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=554 I believe pay is based on experience
In any organization as large as GM you have some very good smiths and a few not so good. But they are big enough to make good any mess ups. They do require some level of training and you will not be asked to do work you are not qualified to do. I think it could be a good platform to learn not only smithing but retail sales as well. I would go for it.

In over 30 years as a professional gunsmith I never once got up in the morning and didn't want to go to work.
