Can someone suggest a gunsmith to do some work on a Mannlicher Schoenauer action in the Houston area?

You did specify Houston, but failing that New England Custom Gun can handle it. The did nice work on mine a few years back.

New England does fine work, and has for me in the past.
I am trying to use spire point bullets in a MS Model 1903 Take Down. They work fine in my other MS which is not a takedown. A simple alteration of the action would do the trick but, at the risk of ruining the collector value. I guess I'm trying to reinvent the wheel. The round nose projectile works perfectly in both guns. I've about decided to leave well enough alone.
