I have a rem700 in 308 and I want to shoot 155 palmas. My freebore is so long that the bullet will not seat in the case and touch the lands. With the 155gr palmas I'm still .020 from the lands at it's farthest forward point. My base to lands/ogive measurement is 2.285 for both 150gr speer spires and 168gr sierra bthp's. Should I set the barrel back? How much does this usually cost? Other options??

How does it shoot with the long freebore? My factory PSS has a very long throat, but I get .5 MOA with it.

These must be the L.Lovelace signature models! Seriously if you want a shorter throat you will have no option other than to set back or rebarrel. The barrel should be set back enough to completly remove the original neck. To do a good job on a set back is frequently more worke than installing a new barrel due to straightness issues. So expect to pay accordingly. Regards, Bill.

Don,

How far off the lands is the bullet you shoot? I haven't loaded any Palmas yet and have just been messing with powders and the 150gr flat based speers I had left over from my last 308. 46.2 gr of 4064 seems to be the trick and I figured I would be in the ballpark with the 155's. Maybe I should try balistic tips or some other bullet with a "short" boatail. I looked on the SAAMI site for chamber specs on a whim and couldn't find anything. Is there any standard that the manufacturers must adhere to or ???? I haven't really shot the gun to much to know how it groups. I know it doesn't like Winchester 150SP's but the Rem 150's shoot just below an inch at 100. I only shot 5 of them. Best group with the speer 150's is .44moa at 300 but I did not have enough of them to shoot for an average. I'm kind of in limbo as to what to do. Any suggestions?
