Persian Mauser Finish Solvent Test

Has anybody solvent tested the shiny finish on an original M98/29 Persian Mauser stock to see for sure whether it's shellac, lacquer, or some kind of varnish?

Here's the most recent pic of me that I've got (holding a drum head played in the recent Eagles world tour, signed by Joe Walsh, that was sent to me by a friend whose son works for him.)



That old Hammond organ in the background and the guitars do tend to distract me from guns and loading now and then.
