I'm working on what amounts to my first stock. I will be using a checkered grip cap and was wondering if the single screw in the center will keep it immobile? Seems like it would be able to pivot around that point? Are there any tricks or is the single screw really sufficient? Thx, Mike

I'm sure Chic and others will reply, but in my limited experience with single screw caps, they had kind of a "boss" on the underside that is inletted (or epoxy-bedded) to keep the cap from rotating.

Mike, if you worry about it, put some release agent on the cap underneath, then some acraglas gel, a little dab on the front point that will contact the wood and bond and the same on the back so that you create a guide for the grip so it can't rotate. Mark an arrow underneath on the bottom of the cap pointing towards the front and install it and let the epoxy set up. It is not a bad idea to put a little epoxy over the whole grip flat to seal it. Good luck on the rest of the job.
