Bedding a mauser with action set screws

On my 1908 Brazillian Mauser...it has the small set screws that fit a notch in the main action screws. It is glass bedded, and due to the stringing problem I mentioned in another thread, I was thinging about redoing the bedding.

My question...since the set screws pretty much force me to return to the same point every time, and I assume I do not want to let the bedding compound set with the screws fully torqued, where do I set the action screws to let the eqoxy set?

In other words, do I need to leave the screws 1/4, 1/8, 1/? turn looser than the set screw notch so I can get some torque when I reassemble everything?

Front screw is obviously torquing bottom metal to the recoil lug, and a metal pillar has been installed for the rear screw (sporterized military stock), but it looks like there is room for a little bedding to fill a gap between the pillar and bottom metal. Thanks for the suggestions...

I don't bother with them, and get the smith to weld up the recess and just use the action screws.

Usually pillars or bushings as you may have go metal to metal. The idea is not to crush the wood but to just fit it right.

On the screws. Just fit the bedding and when it's finished turn the back of the screw heads a little at a time until they index.
