OK Guys, I have a previously used Douglas barrel chambered in .376 Steyr. Previous owner had it made 24" with a step at the muzzle to fit a Ruger front sight barrel band. I don't want to use one, so I want to cut the barrel back and recrown it. I have a 13x40 Jet lathe with a Bison 6 jaw set true chuck and an H&K barrel alignment tool. How accurately should the center of the uncut barrel bore be located? (Had little trouble getting it to +-0.001" spin eccentricity but is being a PITA beyond that.) Thanks! Mike, Even as anal as I am about that, I don't think you could tell it if it were within .0001. Just make sure your cut is 90deg. to the bore. Butch

Thanks Guys! Got it down to the point that the needle on the dial indicator just shudders a little. Anything wrong with an 11 degree crown? Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... Knifemaker, http://www.mstarling.com

Winchester never thought there was anything wrong with that! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I haven't seen anybody prove that the shape of the crown makes a difference in the way they shoot. Just need some protection from dinging it. Butch
