My cousin just stopped by, he was shooting a 1911 with a Springfield replacement barrel. He ran some Wolf steel case ammo through it, the about half a box of Fiocci ammunition. He got a louder than usual report, he told me, then, IIRC, some odd-sounding rounds, maybe two more shots.
Anyway, the barrel is cracked from the muzzle to just in front of the chamber, the crack is straight, does not follow the rifling. It's located on the left side of the barrel, about 9 o'clock, if you will.

How much had this barrel been fired? Sounds like a defect in the steel. Probably needs to return to the manufacturer if they will agree to replace it with a new one.
I can remember that my cousins had an old Stevens single shot .22. The barrel cracked at 6 o'clock at the muzzle. The crack ran down the barrel and disappeared under the fore end. They ignored it and kept shooting it. I have no idea if it retained any accuracy.

Was there any other problem ? Ruptured brass, backed out primer ,or any other indication of excessive pressure ? If not it might very well be a bad barrel.
