I need a gunsmith that someone has personely used for the following project.
Rem. Mod. 30
Bolt face opened up for 338-378 Weatherby
Feed rails altered for 338-378 Weatherby
Mag box lengthened for 338-378 Weatherby
Any other alterations for 338-378 Weatherby
If this is not a good choice of cartrgs. I will go with 375 Weatherby, I have brass, dies, and plenty of bullets for both let me know what you think. After posting this in the classifieds ( were I spend most of my time ) I think 338-378 might not be a good idea. Thanks....Sarge
Thanks....Sarge

I would go with 338 RUM; shorter than the 375, uses standard mag bolt face and does not have a belt. I have not personally used a M30, but have built a 338-378 on a Savage 110,, single shot. And 338 RUMs on a M70 and a P14. Worked fine.

I already have a 338 RUM , the only reason I am doing the project is because I have Dies, Bullets ,and brass and an action.
If need be I will do the 375 Wthby. Thanks....Sarge

Ok, your bolt will need to be opened up, even if you get a P14 bolt; no problem there. Go for it, but as I said, some smiths will tell you not to due to the fat case giving more bolt thrust (same for RUM as well) ) Nothing wrong with 375 wby either and it will probably kick less; those big 338s have a sharp kick pulse. I had to brake my light M70 as it was too much.

Ya my 338 RUM is on a P17 pretty heavy rifle no brake ,but it is quite a jolt. I got a 340 Wthby in a Mod. 70 (no brake)that also commands your attention as well as my 9.3X64 on a Mod. 70 (no brake) Great shooters one and all way more gun than I need in SW Pa. but we need our toys.
