I found a Smith & Wesson model A bolt action rifle. It very interesting. It is a mauser action made in Sweden and has proof marks. The bolt release is nice but different than the common mauser. Its not large and bulky just a small button. The case ejecter is rotated down at a angle not like a mausers which is horizontal to the bolt. The receiver is straight sided. It is a CRF. The metal work is nice for a factory rifle but the factory stock is low quality. The trigger guard is aliminum and the paint is coming off it. It has a side safety which is set vey close to the side of the receiver and works great. It looks very clean. Its bolt shroud is like commercial FN type.Over all it does not look like a converted military gun but a pure commercial design. The lines over all look very nice best discribed as extra clean. Its not a classic style stock that is so popular now its more monte carlo. This one is chambered in 30-06. Its a sleek looking rifle. And would fantastic in a classic style stock because of the sleek metal design.

Can anybody here tell me more info about this gun?

Thanks
Steve

Interesting.

Only bolt S&W I had seen was the 1500 which was also the Mossberg 1500, the Howa and Wby Vanguard.

As usual just my $.02

Wildlife, that S&W rifle is built on what is more commonly known as the Husqvarna small ring 98 action, second variation. The first variation had steel bottom metal. They are high grade actions.

I've owned several of the full stock "D" models.

They were made around 1970 using the Husky HVA action. It is a derivative of the small ring mauser. As I recall, they do not have the self-locking extractor.
