Free?

Few things in life are free.

If you can find a local machine shop or custom automotive fabrication shop they may have some scraps they'll give you.

I have been able to scrounge up some metal from the campus machine shop from time to time.

Various steels are made in 'free maching grades' by the addition of sulphur, phosphorous, lead ,selenium. Examples are from the 11xx and 12xx carbon steels to the 303Se and 416 of the stainless steels.

Pacific, carrys lots of steel.
They also carry alloy flat stock up to 6" thick and have three plate saws in house.
Their phone # is 1-800-547-1091

Another source for all types of steel is Earle M Jorgensen. Phone #1-800-323-5852

I have bought from EMJ for about 20 years now, and Pacific for about 30 years.
