Is there a way to replace or modify the existing CZ527 safety? I have avoided these rifles because of that backwards design. Forward should be fire position. CZ changed it from the 602 to the 550, so why did they stick with it? Thanks for any information.

I have no idea why they still make the saftey that way, Its function is very simple, It just has a half circle part on the saftey, when pushed forward the round part of this half circle rides up and prevents the sear from moving, Its a very simple saftey, that is reliable and positiive because it is blocking the fireing pin essentially directly, however I would think it would be really easy to rotate this half circle on the lever, so that it engages on the back swing, sorta move it 180 degrees. I have 2 of these little guns, they work great for me, I know the safteys are different on them, so I catch myself more aware of the safteys posistion at all times, some tend to think of a single action revolver, pull back, ready to fire

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

I didnt like the feature myself but found that after a few trips afield I got the hang of it . Seems to come as second nature now that when using the CZ that the safety is forward for safe and for my other rifles the reverse .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

I too, have gotten used to the safety. To me it is no big deal, then again, I don't have that many rifles that I would get confused as to which one I have while in the field and inadvertantly think I'm pushing it into safe, when in fact, I am pushing it into the fire position. I also own a CZ 550 American with the same safety and have no problems there either. Now, if the safety did not work, then that would be another question alltogether. I guess I'm different. The rifles are just too darn good for me to let the safety keep me from enjoying them. Tom Purdom

I'm pretty sure the newer rifles are forward to fire just like they should be. Maybe it would be an idea to contact CZUSA and see if the newer parts will fit the older guns Big Grin

JS........Wisner's used to make a "right way" safety for the small CZ. When I bought mine, they only had 19 left, (17 after I bought two.) Contact them here:
Wisner's Inc is located at PO Box 58, Adna, Washington, 98522 USA. phone number is (360) 748-4590
e-mail address is parts@gunpartsspecialist.com

If they don't have any left, I might be talked into selling one of mine......e-mail me at: Oldmodel70@aol.com Grant.

P.S. There is a small amount of gunsmithing required for installation. Directions are included with the safety. (I think I could install one, although I haven't acquired a CZ yet. I bought the safeties, "just in case." )

Thanks Oldmodel70: Sorry I lost track of this thread. I don't have any CZs, but those "little" 527s have been sort of intriguing. I just bought a pre-64 Model 70 so I'll have to wait...again. Thanks for the information and offer. Have a good Independence Day.

The question was about the "527" CZ.

This action has a safety that can not be changed with out redesigning the complete bolt and the way things interact regarding the cocking piece and safety.

The 602 Brno and the 550 CZ are a completely different matter and several makers of safeties offer M70 type conversions.

The older Brno 22 rilfes, #1,2,3,4,5, and the CZ 452 series are another matter. I used to make safety for the older Brnos that would also fit the CZ 452.
However I have sold what inventory I had and have no plans to make any more.
