I wonder what others think about the strength of sling attachemnts. I have been using the simple round posts with a machine screw stud for the front and wood screw for the rear swivel attachemnts. Althought I like the various flush mounted systems I find the QD strap/sling hardware satisfatory. After seeing some of options on rifles pictured here, I milled out some pedestal studs. I wonder about the strength of the attachments. I know the large wood screw in the rear and the machine screw in the front hold well. I don't know if using two small screws on the pedestal, or using the "hidden" attachment as per the Miller rifle company will hold as well. I am thinking I will use brass wood screw inserts tapped 6x48 fore and aft and skip the "hidden" Miller thing. I am sure the Miller system works, but I am not sure I understand it completly. I think they hold the rifle and sling together with a single #6 set screw backed into the bottom of the pedestal. I wonder what others have done. Thanks for your thoughts. Roger | ||

I think the style considered to be the english/safari with the two small scres (or hidden attachment) work just fine. There aer some that have been on rifles for many years with many of miles of carry on them and they are still going strong. The ones I dislike most are the screw in posts, I find that they have a tendency to back out a turn sometimes under use and it irritates me. Some of my favorite are found on old sporters (maybe they were military) the large ones with build in sling loops and held on by two good size wood screws. I have some take off from a stock out there that I am saving for later on. Polish them up and recontour a bit and they'll look great on maybe a Krag sporter.
