Recoil RobHUSQVARNA MOD 648; Strengthened 96 action?
Simpsons has an 8x57 listed as a HUSQVARNA MOD 648; Strengthened 96 action.
Just how did they go about strengthening a 96 action?

JD MillerIt is a m96 action with a higher left side rail and no thumb cut.
I see them every once in awhile. Not sure how many were made. Allens Armory has sold several of those ones with the strengthened m96 action
Zoom in on the Simpsom photo and you can see
Strengthened is a stretch, I liken it to it being the Commercial 96 version of the 96 as the FN commercial is to the Std 98. No thumbcut and as JD said, a higher sidewall.
I have several of these.

Recoil RobSo, without a 3rd lug or front larger ring are they really any stronger, or just, as Mike said, commercial versions?
IMHO,
Strengthened is more of a marketing term than a reality. If anything, I'd say they were ever so slightly more rigid. Enough to notice? I doubt it.
One thing that may be less of an improvement is the solid siderail, it directs more gas down the the left rail than an action with a thumbcut in the event of a case rupture.
Still nice little rifles if they're not all hacked up by Bubba's Swedish cousin.

Recoil RobKind of hard to see in the one at Simpson, there's a scope side mount in the way.
Did they still have the charging hump and slot for the clip?
thanks,
Rob
