Hi-

I'm trying to find drawings of the 98 mauser and/or magnum mauser action so I can model them up in my CAD system. I suppose I could take mine apart and measure all the pieces, but that isn't appealing - I've done stuff like that before and it's not so fun...

I'd like to produce a few small animations of how the trigger, sear, safety, etc all work. I might even run some stress analysis on the models if I get the urge. Having a set of machinist's drawings, production prints, patent drawings, etc with full dimensions sure would make the process easier.

Anyone know if this sort of stuff is around? TIA, maxman

Look in Jon Speed's book on Oberndorf Mauser Sporting Rifles.

I'd bet a steak dinner that Montana Rifle would have that, you could try sweet talking them. I would think that in the process of designing their action they needed that information for reference.

Don't bug Montana or we'll never get our actions. Heck, may not get them anyway.

Maxman, If you seriously wish to accomplish your stated goal in a reasonable length of time, start making the needed accessories for your CMM.
No access to one of those? Dig out the Vernier Calipers and the Mikes. This will produce results sooner. There was a "manufacturing book" on the military M 98. I didn't have the $ 5000,00 asking price for a copy back about 1947 when it was advertised by an enterprising resident of post war West Zone Germany. It had been overlooked by the occupying forces in 1945. That no one has managed to get a copy of the "Book" with drawings for the Model 1917 (Enfield) to tell about it is no doubt a clue. Such probably exists for all of these- somewhere-. The sketches and drawings in the Speed book are a start, but seem to be more of a management advisory. You will still need to do physical measurements. The deviations not affecting operation are legion ( as measured in the field) Good luck in your quest!

I get a copy of the manufacturing process of a M 95 Spanish , piece for piece , and all the machines to do the operation plus the estimated pieces a man could do in a single day of operation in a standard 10 hours labor day , printed in 1897 , simply amazing [Smile] .

I have seen an article by the Jewish for the preservation of firearms someplace. I believe it goes into great detail in building a mauser.
