A local shop has a 1970s vintage Remington m700 varmint in good shape for a reasonable price. Only problem is it is a .222 and all our other rifles are .223. How much should it cost to rechamber a .222 to .223 Thanks, Matt
The barrel would have to be set back quite a bit for the chamber to clean up. Might be better off to rebarrel, one of our smiths will have the definitive answer, I'm sure. If that rifle is in good shape and reasonably priced, I'd buy it in a hearbeat and use it as is. I have two early 700's in 222 and both are tack drivers and the 222 will do just about as well as a 223. What is he asking for it?

Craigster, He is asking 350 which I think is very fair based on condition and what they go for today. FWIW, I picked up a Beretta 390 super sporting clays from him last night in MINT condition for 600 even. The first two rounds down the tube bagged me a double on crows so I am tickled
M Jager, I have to agree with Craigster 100% on this one and go a step further and say that the .223 will do nothing that the .222 will not do better! Jim

Well I don't really have anything against the .222. But as I am reloading for four .223s, its just not practical to get a .222 and have to buy brass, dies, and always be changing stuff around so I can load for both calibers.
