I have first go at a Pre-64 Win M70 in 300 Win Mag. Wood is ok and rifle is intact with good metal. Older Leupold 3-9 Vari II Glass.
What is the Value of this gun in the US?
I can get it for $800 Can/520US. What years was the M70 in this chambering?

According to the Rule book the 300 win mag was made from 61 to 63 and total US and International number 4900+a few and this makes it a desireable chambering...I would check very closely for barrel setback and rechambering which should be easy to spot and I think that you would be getting a "deal" at the rate you are listing and a good caliber to boot....I have the 300H/H version and it is a sweet shooter.....enjoy your find and good luck and good shooting!!!

I would grab it. I just left two gun shops and a old but good std bbl .270 was $700 and a fair to good 06 in the std bbl was also $700. Then at another shop a worn 06 again in the std bbl was $600.

That .270 was quite nice. It was near a new M70 in .300 WSM that had a non checkered laminated stock and that one was $650. There is no way I would take that crude new .300 for that old but fine .270. You could feel the well shaped, checkerd pistol grip on the pre64.

The very late 63 and 64's had plastic butt plates and were not "pre war" in finish. But they are still pre64's

I just read that post again. That pre 64 is $520 US!

I will take it.

Thanks for the info, I am not in it to resell, just wanted to see the value.I guess there is one advantage to our crappy$, Guns are a bargain up here compared to south of the border. It looks like I will add another jem to my gun cabinet! I hope its a shooter, I'll give a range report.

I had the exact same gun about a year ago. Paid $550CDN(about $325US?) for it in a gunshop in Edmonton with a Weaver K4 duplex reticle scope on it.The 300 Win Mag/Pre'64 was a one year only deal in '63. I refinished the wood on mine(it was rough)and resold it.Real smooth feeding but the mag box is too short for a 300 Win Mag.Why they didn't put the 3.6" mag box in these rifles is beyond me.Sometimes I wish I'd kept it but it went to good home. You'll have a unique rifle that you won't encounter out in the woods everyday.
