I have an chance to pick up a factory Weatherby .378 weatherby magnum take off barrel with 40 once fired brass and a set of dies for $90. I don't know if it came off a mkV or what. Can this be made to fit a P14 action? Or can the rear end of the barrel be cut down then rechambered for a shorter case and fit into a different action. If you have any ideas I would like to hear them.

If the barrel is factory, then it must of come off a Mk5.The thread pattern on a Mk5 is 1.062-16tpi.That thread pattern is the same as Rem.700 and several other actions. In order to fit it to an enfield, you would have to cut the shank off and rethread.A gunsmith would charge you for threading and chambering.I think if you were going to do that you would be better off going with a new barrel because you would be paying the same price.

Otto,
The enfields have , iirc, the largest shank and threads of the milsurps.

a new pacnor barrel will cost you ~250 from a thread and long chambered (it's actually short threaded, but that dont really matter) barrel

If a smith CAN make you barrel work, he'll have to rent or buy the reamer (call it 50 bucks) and then have to chamber and headspace the barrel, call it 150 more..

you are out more bucks with the used barrel
