I am giving up on the ribbed 9.3 barrel for the time being. What is the smallest diameter barrel at the muzzle would you recommend? It will be a 22" barrel.
Thanks Butch

I'm with you, anything under .650 would be too darn light and wispy. I might be happier with a bit more rather than less.

I have a 20" barreled 9.3x62 that I'm getting together right now and the muzzle measures .590". It is a very light barreled rifle and I can't wait to get it together.
What are you getting together?

Mine is a Banner mauser with little Chinese marks on it. I squared the frontring, just touched the front lugs-took .002 to cleanup, chargerhump removed, surfaced ground, raceways polished, welded rear tang hole and tapped a blind hole, reshaped the tang, Ed Lapour safety, Blackburn trigger, Jim Kobe bolt handle, and so on. Roger Vardy called earlier and has picked out a blank for me. 15 years old. Should be at David Christmans in about 3 weeks. Oh, my Blackburn bottom metal shipped last week and should be here any time. I still have sights[iron& scope] to work on next. I'm going to get David to rough turn the blank and then I will see if I am brave enough to finish it.

I have a 9.3 x 64 with a pretty skinny 22" barrel. It will definitely be built more for carrying than shooting.

For a 9.3 x 62, .630" should be fine.

I recently ordered a #3 contour in 9.3 from Shilen. It's light for sure but I've found that if one builds his rifle light he can balance it by adding lead shot under the barrel and epoxying it into the stock and it's also a lot easier to add weight than remove weight.

Many folks have discovered this the hard way as I did!.....
