Couple questions. What are you all's favorite bases and rings to use on custom rifles. And what do you think of the old Leonard Brownell/Kimber/Warne bases and rings. They used a much shallower dovetail than the current Talley rings. Does anyone make a ring that is compatible with the old LB/K/W bases?

Thanks for your thoughts.

The Warne Premier series of rings are my absolute favorite rings. I have them on almost all of my rifles. Warne no longer makes the Premier rings but still offers the Premier series bases. Their 7.3 series rings fits the Premier bases. You can find Warne Premier rings occasionaly on Ebay, but they are very pricey these days. The Premier uses a 3/8" dovetail compared to the 1/2" that Talley uses. I have used the premiers on a very heavy recoiling 338 WM and never had a problem. I would feel comfortable using them on all but the biggest of calibers, and on anything that big I wouldnt want a scope anyway.

I picked up a set of Kimber and an old set of Warne at a gun show over the weekend. The Kimbers are a very well made ring, the Warne not so hot. Also picked up a set of Kimber bases that will fit either ring. I like the Kimber base and ring much better than any current offerings I have seen, including the Talley. Just wondering if there is some reason no one is making this style ring anymore. What am I missing.

I personally like the Talley's, they are consistently the best rings I have found. My first set is over 12 years old, and they are just the same as what you can buy today. I think there's something to be said for a good product staying consistent over a period of time....

I don't know if I'm familiar with the particular Kimbers mentioned, but I will stick with the Talley's, there what everything I've got is getting converted to.
