which is a BSA action- saw one in .243; can this same action feed/cycle 7x57's?

I guess what I mean is, is the J9 a short action, or did one action cover the .308 sized stuff, and another the '06 sized cartridges.

Thanks.

PS- also saw a Model 30 Rem in 25-06, been redone some, price was 695.

at GA.

J9's were Yugo Mausers, U9's were BSA's. U9's were available in both short and long actions. The short action (7.75") was used in chamberings up to .308 (including 257 Rob and 7x57) and the long action (8.5") was used for .270, 30-06, and some magnums.

Craigster nailed it.

Also, the Rem 30 is a heavy action, making the rifle heavy, if that is important to you. It is to me, but you might like it. The weight didn't bother me when I was younger as I had one in 30-06.
I now reside in the geriatric rifle domain; light weight, low recoil... jumping

Rem 30 is a heavy action

I mentioned it because there doesn't seem to be a lot of them around, and they always bring a lot of oohs-and-ahhs when someone posts pics of one.

Like you, I like moderation in the weight/recoil area Wink

As said, the "J"9 was a Yugo action. de Haase said he thought Herter was buying Mark X 2nds. The English, BSA action was called "U"9. And there was an XKE briefly. I got the sell out flyer. I think they were $40.-. Another Mark X I suspect. Both nice guns. And all the custom wood available. Slobber, slobber.

Remington 30 was the old 1917 Enfield action in civilian dress. Lots of '06s available, SURPRISE! Other calibers harder to get. Still had the dog leg bolt. Later with straight bolt, Model 720 I think. Big. Heavy. Great for .300 Weatherby and up. Little much for 7x57, but should work. Enjoy.

The U-9 [BSA Med] action will easily work with the 7x57 as I have one in that calibre. DS triggers and all. I take ANY BSA Monarch, Royal that comes along.Great guns.
Aloha, Mark
