SO....I got the 9,3x62 bug

I am thinking about taking a SAMCO bbld action, rebarreling with nice express sights and dropping it into a nice McMillan until I get the scratch together to stock it properly. I don't really want to D&T or change the safety. Anything else that needs doing in terms of metal work that I am not seeing? The thing doesn't have to be pretty...but must function 100%. What about the budget for such a project? Am I possibly better off getting AHR to build me one on a CZ?

Hello, those Persian mausers are very nice, often overlooked. I did a 30-06 on on, and it was great. Budget would be about 1500 give or take. New bolt handle 75, polish about 100, rebarrel 500, McMillan's 450, nice sights 250, trigger 100 (you may want to keep original) and refinish is (depending) 200. All depends on how much you want to spend. Doing a military mauser correctly is not a cheap undertaking. I just finished a 1910 Mex Mauser in a McMillan and have about 3K with scope, and thats not even a high end job.

Darn right they are.....and if you're not going to scope it the task gets pretty cheap.....no D&T, no safety and no bolt handle required! You can even retain the original trigger.

Change barrels and add the McMillan stock you mentioned......you're shooting.

Or you can just buy a Husky M-98 already chambered in 9.3 X 62 from allans armory

Hi vapodog,

I have looked at that site quite a bit....but it seems every rifle I look at there has something I don't care for. I figure if I am going to have work done, I might as well have it all done the way I want it in the first place. I am thinking a 24" bbl with NECG banded front and two leaf rear with all the rest stock mauser except for bending the existing bolt handle staight down (no sweep). Now does anyone know if I can get the Mcmillan CZ-AHR inletted for this mauser? Anyone else make a synthetic with pancake cheekpiece? hmmm.....

I think this should be a darn nice little project for a purely utilitarian rifle. Now, who offers the best value to do the work?

Thanks,

tendrams

Look at the Sako Classic, fits the mauser well. I think Bansners has a cheek piece.

I would definitely leave it open sights -- so as not to cover up the crest. The crest on the receiver ring is absolutely beautiful. I have one being polished as we speak. There is no way I would consider drilling and tapping it.

I did one in an 338-06. Installed a commercial bolt shroud and timney side safty trigger. Elkridge stock I finnished myself. Installed remmy sights with true glow inserts. Total was abot $900. I will eventually swap bottom metal with a a swing open version.

I have known Allan from another site for several years before he started the Armory. He is a very open honest straight forward guy who will not be cryptic with you.
Tell him what you are looking for and ask him if he thinks he can find it. You might have to wait several months or more but he might be able to find something. It cost nothing to ask.
He will recognize my handle if you mention it.
