I think I paid $1K for it. Believe donor was a .300 H&H. Does that sound about right. #3690__, c. 1956. I don't have it handy but I believe it's a cloverleaf (IIRC vintage 1949-50 manufactured, serialised in '56) There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. Sounds about right price wise. The serialization is questionable; 3690xx would be a 1956 and 3690x would be a 1941. Coverleaf tang and prewar receiver go together. Transition models 1946-1948 go both ways with clover leaf tangs, prewar(grooved and undrilled) and later(smooth). The later style in transisiton may be undrilled or drilled with one or two holes originaly. The H&H's run out of sequence at times. I would be interested to see what your's is. I may be in the market for a 1956 H&H (I collect 1956 Win 70's) PA Bear Hunter, NRA Benefactor

Unfortunately I don't have it on hand. I just remember reading it in the Bible about the transition long action being numbered later on. Yeah it's 36906x. I have another cloverleaf 340 Wby same thing, though I believe that gun is indeed a '49 or 50. There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. Did you pay $1k for just the action? I bought a 1940 .30-06 complete rifle in decent shape just yesterday for $530. I now have 6 and this is the most I've ever paid for one. IMO, any pre-64 action is worth around $500, no more than that. John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!

Again, it was several years ago and I'd like to say it was around $1K, maybe $900 dunno. Can't remember if it was a rifle or not I do think it was a .300 H&H if indeed a rifle. I just traded a 30-06 and a 300 H&H for $2600.00. The guy sold them both in 2 days for $3100.00 Cabela's gave me $1050.00 for a Fwt 30-06 with a pad 2 months ago. $600 minimum for a std pre 64 action and $1,000.00 for a magnum pre 64 action has been the norm for at least 10 years.
