Sorry Griff, I just noticed that you are in Scotland. Disregard the legal minimum stuff I just posted.

How bad is the bend? You could block it in a vise and bend it back if it's not bent much.

What is your law on minimum barrel length's? How do they measure it?

Savage99,
the bend is too much to much, If I cut out the bend it will leave about 16" of straight barrell. I'm not sure about the minimum barrell length that the law requires.
My other concern was if the barrell is too short it will not burn all the powder, and if I fit one of the reflex suppressors it could fill up the suppressor with unburnt powder!!!!

many thanks

Griff

Why even mess with it? If you don't want to spend allot of money on a new custom barrel, you can find take-off barrels pretty cheap (under $100, sometimes way under).

With 16" left of unbent barrel - I'd say: time for a new Border barrel!

As I remember you bought a CZ rifle that had been run over by a truck.
I'm not sure (but someone on this board will know), isn't that the same thread as a M-98 Mauser? And if so, your choice of decent prechambered/prethreaded barrels is fairly large, and the only other costs would be instalation onto the receiver.
Changing the barrel at the same time you have the suppressor fitted should be less expensive than doing the 2 jobs seperatily, as the 'smith will already have the rifle apart.

Tailgunner,
spot on tailgunner, it is indeed a cz550, my thought process was in making a woodland rifle, with reflex being long and heavy, a short barrelled 30cal with say a 15" barrell plus the added 4.5" of the reflex would give me a total of less than 20" with most of the xtra weight towards the rear of the gun.
the lathe work involved for the the fitting of the suppressor and the re-crown I can do myself.
the only reason that I have not put a new barrell on it is ITS A CZ!!!
Should it of been anything other than a cz it would of been in use now with nice new shiny shilen

griff, with the addition of the suppressor you should have at least a 20" barrel.this is what they suggest for the 308 caliber. Not sure of the brand you will be using but you might contact them.
