Gents:

What would be entailed to take the side safety on the Zastava and turn it into a tang safety?

i saw a friend of mine do it one time. make a tang piece and weld it to the rear of the action. fit a sliding safety button to the new tang. cut off the thumb piece below the stock line and make the linkage required to activate the old safety.
i wish i could get you a picture but ernie died a few years ago and i have no idea who has the rifle.

You don't need a picture as Savage still does it on the 110 series rifles. I have a 112 and it's a cool little design.

There is no question that it can be done. The only question is whether you are willing to spend the cash required.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Lower end $200 for something that wouldn't match a fine rifle, upper end $600 for something that would be a waste on an average one. Some of the variables:
1. Design and operability(ergonomics)
2. Quality of workmanship(appearance/finishing)
3. Level of detail(checkering LPI, inset slide, etc)
4. Embellishments(engraving, gold inlay, etc)

Old hot-rodder's maxim: Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?
