I have a Winchester Model 1884 Low wall cal 17HMR made in Japan by Miroku. Frequently the hammer hits on the 1/2 cock and not on the firing pin. Something prevents the 1/2 cock from retracting? I have taken the gun appart but sofar have not been able to find the trouble. Previously I have washed the inside with WD40 and it has solved the problem for a short time only to have the FTF to reacure. Any ideas? BTW the rifle is quite new. Shipping the rifle out of the country is not an option, I am in Canada. Thanks for any help you can provide. Fred M. zermel@shaw.ca

Fred, Call Browning and see if they have a repair depot in qwe-bec... There might even be a phone number for their Canadian office in the paper work/brochure that came with the rifle..

The trigger on my 17HMR low wall, which works just fine, does indeed have a half cock.

Mine works just fine as well, I also the 17M2 and no issue either, but keep us posted on the solution.
