I dinged my new winchester 70 featherweight. It has a walnut stock with some kinda satin finish. Can I raise the ding with steam or something? will it ruin the finish? I own a "jiffy steamer" (which basicaly is like a steam gun) could i use that?

The easiest way is to take a soldering iron and a damp piece of toilet paper and apply both onto the dent.

Sand the finish off the ding with 320 grt. then take a piece of wet cotton material and hold it over the ding and press your wifes iron set on high on it, repeat as necessary until you have no ding and its replaced with a swell...sand it lever with 320 backed on a file or whatever, then apply finish and wet sand until the finish matches, may need some stain...

And if you are a great big chicken and tend to put off anything that might make matters worse, practice on a small stick of walnut scrap or something.
