Can the .223 sized Rem M700 actions be made to work with the .243/308/358 sized cartridges? Just wondering as I've found a cheap 17Rem that I'd like to play with until rebuilt into a 358Win.

The receiver will work, but the bolt will need to be replaced or opened up. Dave Kiff,PTG, has new bolt bodies for $125. They will grind to your OD spec. Butch

That's what I thought, plus the magazine plug removed and maybe a new follower?

You need to have the bolt modified, a Sako extractor conversion is common, the mag box, follower and spring are also needed for the correct cartridge.
