What does it mean to flair the sear slot on a mauser? Also slope the tang? Does it mean machine the top of the tang to taper it more? Allen It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.

I'm sure there is an expert out there. I hope with a nice picture to better show you than my attempt. I've always viewed those terms mean: Flaring the sear is to open the back end. Forming a nice smooth curve flaring out on each side of the slot. Like the old M70 I believe. Sloping the tang lowers the end so that the top edge of the tang will hit the end of the sear slot. As it contacts the stock. This allows you to have a smooth grip area without having to cut a slot in the wood to allow the sear to clear. Probably clear as mud. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
