My Special Edition is snake bit also. I love this gun, but I have had 5 misfires out of 7 rounds of my reloads. It is obvious that the firing pin is barely hitting the primer. Has anyone else had problems with their Ruger Special Editions? I have seen the same problem mentioned on other boards.

Try a different primer? Some guns have problems with some primers being too hard. All depends on the firing pin strength.

Remove the striker assembly from the bolt. You will probably notice that the spring has one or more places where the coils have collapsed upon one another. This portion of the spring is essentially "dead". If this is the case then a replacement spring is the cure. I use Wolff springs available from Brownell's. Clean the bolt out to ensure that there is nothing that may be interfering with the striker travel. Make sure you havn't created a headspace condition by when sizing. Regards, Bill.

This problem has been discussed at length on HuntAmerica, and the bottom line was send it in to Ruger and they will repair it under warranty.

If you work on it or alter it you run the risk of Ruger refusing to repair it under warranty.
