Recoil RobRear sight for remington Model 14?
I just picked up a Rem M14 at an auction, it has a tang sight mounted but the original rear sight is missing and I'd like to replace it.
The rear of the barrel has a dovetail cut into it and then behind that there's another cut across the barrel top about 1/8" wide. It looks as though some part of the original rear sight sat down in it.
Anyone have more info about this or a lead on a replacement? No go at Numerich.

kk alaskaI think your looking for a Rem. wheel site. Adjustments were made by turning the elevator wheel.
An example on this link

Recoil RobI made this inquiry on the Remington Society's BBS and found out that all guns were cut for the thumbwheel sight like the one in your link, a #117-1/2, but only the early guns used it. Later guns still had the cut but went to a 107-1/2 as the standard rear sight, however the 117-1/2 was still available as an option, as were many other different rears, including some folding leafs.
I think the folding leaf may be my best option for versatility.
Thanks, Rob
