A friend of mine gave me an Ithaca shotgun, minus the barrel. Its an older shotgun, and the new interchangeable barrels do not fit on this older gun. I called Ithaca, and they told me that the older guns had the barrels individually fitted. a they also told me they could fit a barrel to the gun. When all is said and done, it will cost over $300 to get a barrel for this gun. I dont wnat to spend thgat kind of money, the gun isnt worth that much to me. I am wondering if I found an Ithaca barrel, can I take it to a gunsmith to have it fitted, and if so, approximately how much would that cost. Thanks for any replies.

CC,

Seems I did this very thing for a customer a couple of years back. Nightmares and flashbacks I remember. This doesn't stand out as being anything too hairy. Let me do some checking and I'll get back to you.

There is an old stlye and new stlye barrels for the Ithaca 37.

They changed the threads on the barrels. There is a s/n cut off but I can't find it right now.

It is possible to fit the new barrels to the old guns. But it is a royal pain. Check the gun list as there are a couple of used barrel dealers listed there.

As Wisner suggested, there are a couple of shotgun barrel dealers that list in Gun List from time to time. I recall one of them is in NY somewhere, who specializes in Ithaca barrels. Such a dealer might have one for the older receivers. Also, check with Gun Parts Corporation (Numrich Arms). [Big Grin]

The cut off is 855,000.
From what Ithaca told me, older barrels WILL NOT fit on older guns. Acoording to Ithaca, the barrels were specifically made for an individual gun. I would like to just buy an "older" barrel, but according to Ithaca, I stand a good chance that the old barrel will not fit on my old gun.
