The one I have has a pad on the buttstock (I wouldn't call it a recoil pad, it's more of a brick). If possible I would like to cut is off to a shorter LOP for my girls to use.

If it won't work, I guess I'll need to try and trade into a used wood stock.

Thanks,

You'll need to glue something in the hollow stock for which to attach a recoil pad, and you might have to move the rear sling stud forward, but yeah, it can be done. Of course if you don't care what it looks like you can simply glue the new pad on and grind it down. She will probably outgrow the short stock before the embarrassment, but todays kids seem fairly resilient... Big Grin

What could be used to glue inside the stock and what kind of glue would hold this?

Thanks,

Cut a piece of wood that will fit inside of the hollow stock. After you cut the stock, rough sand the inside of the butt and fill the butt with expanding foam sealer. After that dries, dig enough of the foam out so the wood will fit inside butt. Mix up a batch of brownells acraglass-gel and put a liberal coat of gel inside of the stock and on the wood. insert wood plug in the stock slightly recessed, clean up any excess gel and let dry. After drying fit the recoil pad and you're finished.

TIPS: Mask off ALL of the exposed stock during the foam and bedding process. This stuff is messy and next to impossible to clean up.

Make sure the plug is big enough that both screws of the recoil pad hit wood.

The wood youth stocks pop up on e-bay fairly often; I picked one up for about $ 50 so the grandson could shoot my .243 and I could keep the featherweight stock too.

Another option is an Outers Cadet stock. They're a synthetic stock with a 12 1/4 LOP. Brownell's carries them for about $75, less if you have an FFL on file with them. That'll leave your full size stock for them to grow into.
