I would like to start a collection of sporterized military bolt action rifles. These are my initial thoughts.

1903 springfield in 35 whelen
1898 mauser in .270 win
p14 enfield in .300 win mag
type 99 arisaka in 7x57

I am wondering if the #1 or #4 enfields are worthy of the rebarrel job?

If you rebuilt a SMLE as a pre-WWI English sporter (like Ken Waters' Speed Lee Metford from his Pet Loads article) in the original 303 but with a 26-28 inch barrel then you don't need to worry about action strength. The trick will be finding a pattern for the wood.
