22WRF: You entered the ACGG show without your name tag in view (probably have great self preservation instincts)

I was more than happy to excercise my free speech rights when when I found out who you were

SCI "Millionaire" Hunters First

I did too, which is why I found it strange that when Mr. Bush was going around the convention center there were about 20 guys around him keeping people away from him.

As to why I belive that some were secret service, They had authority to keep people away rather than to just protect. A couple had handguns on their person.

"Your argument sounds good but isn't. You are right, the POTUS knows nothing that isn't told him by others. Difference is those "others" each possesses only part of the picture while the POTUS has the full picture, thereby he is a much more valuable target.

However I think the "knowledge" he possesses is a minor consideration. Our president is the leader of the free world and a highly desirable target, you aren't. They are hugely valuable political targets. They are our Presidents and entitled to protection."

Howard

Thank you for advancing an argument on the merits.

I agree with you that Presidents of the United States deserve the utmost in protection. I believe I stated my argument was about ex-presidents of the United States.

And I agree with your statement that the knowledge they possess isn't all that important.

PROTECTIVE MISSION
Protective Mission - Special Agent standing post.
After the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901, Congress directed the Secret Service to protect the President of the United States. Protection remains a key mission of the United States Secret Service.

Authorization
Today, the Secret Service is authorized by law to protect:

* The president, the vice president, (or other individuals next in order of succession to the Office of the President), the president-elect and vice president-elect
* The immediate families of the above individuals
* Former presidents and their spouses for their lifetimes, except when the spouse remarries. In 1997, Congressional legislation became effective limiting Secret Service protection to former presidents for a period of not more than 10 years from the date the former president leaves office
* Children of former presidents until age 16
* Visiting heads of foreign states or governments and their spouses traveling with them, other distinguished foreign visitors to the United States, and official representatives of the United States performing special missions abroad
* Major presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election
* Other individuals as designated per Executive Order of the President
* National Special Security Events, when designated as such by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

Apparently the congress agreed somewhat with my belief. A step in the right direction.

Thanks for that information Howard.

I was told by a reliable source that he removed his name tag EVERY TIME he slithered in.

Westpac (malm, Rem 721)

Your source was somewhat reliable. I never wore the thing once. I don't wear them when I go to CLE classes, etc. either. I was told that it was not necessary to wear them, and the neck strap was only given as a convenience for people who wanted to come and go from the show.

Name tags were not required at the SCI convention and I didn't wear them there either.

But I did tell my name to everyone that I spoke with, and I think I spoke with almost everyone there, except for some of the engravers and knifemakers.

I saw many others who did not wear their name tags. I didn't "slither" in. I walked in just like everyone else.

I had a wonderful time there and met some very nice people. I would highly recommend the show to anyone interested in custom guns, custom knives, and engraving. In addition, I would highly recommend the two shows to anyone who is contemplating purchasing wood for a custom project. If I remember correctly there were three vendors at the ACGG show, and a few more at the SCI show. The selection of wood was incredible. I would also highly recommend the two shows to anyone contemplating having some engraving work done. The number of vendors at both shows is very good and the styles vary considerably so that one can have a good selection of styles to choose from. Some of the Italian engravers at the SCI show were just incredible. Creative Arts comes to mind.

And the Nugget hotel is a very nice hotel. Nice pool, hot tub, and exercise room. Great restaurants. Great rooms. Fair price. Easy parking.

Kevin, you give me way too much credit. Who, in your little world, isn't Rem 721? You are a lifeless moron.

Guys,
I picked up on this forum because I wanted to find out more about the show since I didn't go. Opinions are opinions, if we can't let people state theirs without name calling, ..... how about more information on the show, please?

All have their impressions of the show. Moving to the Nugget took us away from the center of acivity (aka SCI).

But, the folks who showed must have made a special effort to attend. Overall, the food wasn't real great, but the rooms were much nicer than Silver Legacy, the show room was more spacious.

If you wanted a "break" ..outside there is only a parking lot. At Silver Legacy, lots of possibilities.

All in all, I THINK most were pretty happy a the Nugget..but most that I spoke to seemed to want to be a little closer to the "action"

Probably depends if you were seeking commissions or just showing up prove that you have not yet assumed room temperature

I would just add, from a attendee point of view, that they did have busses running from the Nugget to the convention center. I took advantage of them, and it was real nice. The bus picked up right at the rear door of the Nugget and dropped off right at the front door of the convention center. No hassle parking at the convention center, and no worry losing your parking spot at the Nugget. And the best part, I suppose, was that the ride was free. They had 3 busses running, once every 15-20 minutes, so there wasn't a very long wait.

The Nuggett also had a live band each night down next to the Casino, if you like that sort of thing. Their bar was nice (the Bloody Marys were great). Their pool was heated and large.

I would agree, not much to do outside if you got tired of the Nugget, but all in all a very nice hotel, with great rooms.

When I was at the SCI show there didn't seem to be a lot of signage to signify that the ACGG show was going on at the Nugget. Maybe it was on some of the literature, but otherwise, if I would have went to that show, and hadn't known about the ACGG show, I probably wouldn't have known about it. Nor would I have known about the free bus rides back and forth.

For the ACGG, if they want the most exposure possible, the best bet would probably be to see if they could sublet a space from SCI in the convention hall. That would get exposure!!!!

Duane agreed but there is a 3 year deal in place so it looks like we will be there next year.

I heard a rumor from a very reliable source that SCI is moving their venue from Reno to Las Vegas starting next year. Has anyone else heard that?

I am just wondering why the brain trust of that organization feels that the convention has to be at an establishment that is near other establishments that offer gambling.

They have had those conventions in Nevada for so many years.

I would think that a place like Chicago or Kansas City or St. Louis might be a good place to try, as they are in the middle of the country, thereby making it just a bit easier on the Eastern crowd for a few years.

(Minneapolis has a great convention center as well!!!!!)

Many thanks. Do you know if they will be the same time in both places?

Good for Bush that he went to SCI, with or without bodyguards. How long to you think it will take for Obama to do the same?
