* HELP I think I found a mount. I have a early fifties FN commercial Mauser. I need to know the barrel diameter 3'' +- in front of the stock. I don't have calipers and my gunsmith is 100 miles away. Can anyone help? thanks capt david "It's not how hard you hit 'em, it's where you hit 'em." The 30-06 will, with the right bullet, successfully take any game animal in North America up to 300yds. I took a measurement off a 1948 or '49 Firearms International FN with a stepped barrel. Three inches in front of the action, the barrel diameter is .970"

Early 50s FN barreled action, Belgium proofs and same serial number on the barrel as on the action so I assume it was barreled by FN. 3" from the front ring, .925" diameter "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind..." Hosea 8:7

Ah. For some reason I was thinking 3" in front of the action. This same rifle measures .733" three inches in front of the stock.
