I have a 1908 DWM 98 that is pitted in a couple of places. Can Cerokote cover up pits? Thinking this could make a utilitarian all weather rifle with a stainless synthestic set up. Even if the pits could be noticed, it would still be quite usable. Matt FISH!! Cerakote goes on VERY thin, it probably won't cover up the pitting. I'm had good luck using JB Weld to fill in small pitting areas on Cerakoting over it. | |||

To say Cerokote is thin is an understatement. That stuff sprays on so thin if you use to heavy of a grit to sand blast it won't cover the peaks. The stuff is water thin and does nothing to fill in imperfects. I have had good luck using spotting putty to fill in imperfections on fishing reel frames and cerokoteing them. Wow, I guess I got a bad Cerakote job then. Mine was so thick that I had to stone it off the bolt to get it to fit back down the raceway and close. Had to stone it off the lugs too. Live and learn. Yeah I'd say you did. Here's the deal The people at Cerokote thell you to practice with a small screw 10-32 paint eh treads and bake it. And if you have good color coverage and you van thread the nut on by hand you have the correct coating thickness. Even still the bolt should not have been coated let alone the lugs. Most commercial rifles don't have the clearance needed to coat the bolt. Cerokote goes on at a thickness of .0005" to .001" at the most so over all you could have a .001" to .002" build up.
