Gents, I ended up with a Siamese Mauser that has been converted to .450 Alaskan. It doesn't feed worth a hoot, but I would like to fiddle with it and make it a short range thumper. The military stock is split and in horrible condition. Would a '98 Mauser replacement stock work with this action? Any hints/ suggestions would be very welcome!

Just finished a Siam in 45/70. There's enough difference between the Siam 98 and a "standard" 98 that I would say they are somewhat close, but not even a cigar. The magazine box is different as well as the action length. GAG and RMF both offer semi-inletted stocks for the Siamese action. Save yourself a lot of grief and get a semi inletted stock specifically cut for the Siam action.

Craig, Thanks for the help, can you post the links for the two businesses you mentioned? I like the idea of a semi- inletted stock also. What did you have to do to get your rifle to feed properly? Thanks again, Mark

3584ELK, Great American Gunstocks, www.gunstocks.com, Richard's Microfit Stocks, www.rifle-stocks.com. I got my stock from GAG. As far as the feeding issue goes, it involves modification to the feed rails and sometimes the follower. I'm not real familiar with the 450 AK so I really can't comment on how to make that round feed in the Siam. There are other posters here that can help with that, I'm sure. Once you get that baby spiffed out, you'll have lots of fun, I really enjoy mine.

Craig/ M1Tanker, Thanks for the input! I will begin my project soon...I just finished turning an old Enfield into a "loaner" hunting rifle by repairing the fore stock, bedding it, and rechambering to .303 Epps. Now on to this Mauser. It keeps me off the streets and out of the bars!
