I think the barell is gone but I'm gonna ask anyway. 243 win, The best I can shoot it is maybe 2-2.5". I tried to find a load for it but none seemed to work. The guy I bought it from said it shoots factory loads better then handloads. I tried Hornadys but that is all and still about the same accuracy. What would you do to try and make the gun a little better shooter. I heard that by putting a rubber washer underneath the forearm screw may help. Any advice would be appreciated.

its about 60 bucks for a replacement barrel .. another 40 for a trigger job ...

tightening the buttstock generally helps more

The 1st thing I would do is make sure the barrel is clean, really clean to make sure it's not metal fouled. All it takes is a small amount to ruin the bullet, and your accuracy. I lose lots of barrel replacement jobs to a thorough cleaning of the bore. That includes sometimes getting out the electrolysis cleaner if necessary.

I second cvycbob's advice... go to Graybeard Outdoors. I have a .243 that I have yet to shoot. From spending a lot of time on the above forum I've learned that particular caliber is one of the most challenging to get to shoot well in the NEF rifles. On the bright side, there are a ton of low dollar accuracy fixes that easily fit into the do-it-yourself category.

Good luck, I think these are really neat rifles.
