Well finally got my .416 taylor project at least to the point it's shootable. What a wonderful gun. Build on a Mauser Mark X originally chambered in 7 Rem Mag. First day out it was shooting great. I've chrono'd some rounds out of it with 400 gr hornaday and their going around 2260 right now with RL 15. Still bedding the final stock so been playing with a little fiberglass one but it's not all that punishing (as long as you pay attention to it). Can't wait to take it out to the field and hunt with it!!

I built one once, like a dummy I sold it. I feel it tis a great round. I'd love to have one in a bolt gun with a peep on it for bear hunting.

I put a 3x9 40mm on it but I'm pretty used to putting guns up on 3x pretty quick.

The first time my gun smith told me to pick it up and shoot it off hand, was dead center in the bull (after we sighted it in). Off the bench at 50 it's great and at 100 it just bores holes in the target. First gun I've ever built and it's been a blast doing it.

Hi.
I also have to tell how satisfied I am with my 416 Taylor. Mine is buildt on a Mauser M98, using a "Adams & Bennet" barrel that was fluted, and use a synth. stock. Scoped with a Leu.XIII 1,5-5. Weight 3,3 KG w/scope.
I shot two moose with it last autumn. I simply love it, it will never be for sale!!!

bsbd,

Congrats on your Taylor! Mine started life as a Winchester M70 Classic (stainless, left-handed) in 300 Win Mag. I had a 23" Douglas barrel installed with NECG iron sights and mounted a Leupold 2.5x8 scope.

Recently bought a used Winchester factory composite stock, to replace the wood stock which had slightly broken once, but was working well with two cross-bolts installed. The new stock is kinda cheap feeling and sounding, but should help weather the conditions where I hunt.

I noticed one thing for sure... That composite stock took all the "class" out of the rifle. It now looks like a plain ol'tool. I really liked the wood/stainless combo.

I haven't had the luck with accuracy most guys have had with the 416 Taylor. I think I'll have to send it off and have the barrel turned in a couple threads, then rechambered.
