Savage 99 Trigger Spring Question...

I have a Savage 99 with a tang safety that I tok apart to detail clean and can't figure out how the trigger spring tensions the trigger. When I put the spring in the slot on the left side of the trigger and put the trigger pin back in, there is no tension whatsoever on the trigger. Do I need to put some tension on either the short or long ends of the springs?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Ben H

Can't let your first post go unanswered.

The trigger spring sits like a wide "V" with the trigger pin going through the loop. The long leg goes forward and sits on the shelf ahead and to the left of the trigger, the short leg presses down on the rear of the trigger. The tension is set by the position of the springs legs. When you sit the spring in position, you should have to force the loop down and into position so the pin can slip through and hold it in place. This will place tension on the spring. If there is no tension, then the legs have moved towards each other and the spring is shot. Rather than trying to reposition the legs, order a new spring. Good luck.
